Rev. William Eddy (I), of Crainbrook, Kent county England, was the father of two emigrants of the name who settled in New England in 1630. He was the progenitor of Henry William Eddy, of Worcester. The sons were: John, born about 1595; Samuel, was in Plymouth in 1632 and probably came with his brother in 1630; he was admitted a freeman at Plymouth in 1633; reported able to bear arms 1643; his wife was Elizabeth, and they had a large family and resided in Plymouth colony.
(II) John Eddy, son of Rev, William Eddy (I), was born in Crainbrook, Kent county, England in 1595, according to his oath made Dec. 15, 1673. John Eddy came to Plymouth in New England in the ship "Handmaid", arriving Oct. 29, 1630. He married (first) Amy____, and (second) Joanna__, who died August 25, 1683, at the age of eighty years. The children of John and Amy Eddy were: Pilgrim, b. Aug. 25, 1634; John, b. Feb. 16, 1636/7; Benjamin, buried in 1639; Samuel, b. Sept. 30, 1640; Abigail, b. Oct. 11, 1643. John Eddy died Oct. 12, 1684, at the age of ninety years. His will is dated Jan. 11, 1677, and probated Dec. 16, 1684, bequeathed to sons Samuel and John; sons-in-law John Miriam (Meriam) and Thomas Orton; and daughters Mary Orton, Sarah Miriam, Pilgrim Steadman and Ruth Gardner; wife to have according to their marriage contract.
(III) Samuel Eddy, son of John Eddy (II), was born in Watertown, MA, Sept. 30, 1640. He married Sarah Mead, Nov. 31 (sic 31:9:), 1664. She was the daughter of Gabrial Mead, of Dorchester, MA. He was admitted a freeman there May 2, 1638. Her mother, Joanna was admitted to the church there about 1638. Gabrial Mead died May 12, 1666, aged about seventy- seven. His four daughters, Lydia, Experience, Sarah and Patience, were all minors at the time. The children of Samuel and Sarah (Mead) Eddy were all born in Watertown, viz.: Samuel, born Jun. 4, 1668; Benjamin, born Sept. 16, 1673.
(IV) Samuel Eddy, son of Samuel Eddy (III), was born in Watertown, MA, Jun. 4, 1668. He married, Dec. 13, 1693, Elizabeth Woodward, of an old Watertown family. He died Aug. 6, 1746. She died Aug. 7, 1753. The children of Samuel and Elizabeth (Woodward) Eddy were: John, b. at Watertown, May 6, 1696, settled in Oxford, MA; Elizabeth, b. in Watertown, May 28, 1697, died young; Sarah, b. in Watertown, May 9, 1700, settled in Oxford, married Peter Hurd; Samuel, b. in Watertown, Jul 29, 1703; Ebenezer, b. in Watertown, Jan. 9, 1709, settled in Oxford; Benjamin, b. in Watertown, Nov. 30, 1707, married 1733, Elizabeth Truesdell, he was a tailor; settled in Winchendon or Royalston where he died aged ninety years.
(V) Samuel Eddy, son of Samuel Eddy (IV), was born in Watertown, MA, Aug 18, 1701. He settled in oxford, MA. He married Jan. 30, 1727, Elizabeth Bellows, of Marlboro, MA. His farm was in that part of Oxford later set off as Ward, now Auburn. He died there Aug. 4, 1762. The children of Samuel and Elizabeth (Bellows) eddy were: Elizabeth, b. Nov. 24, 1728, at Oxford; Samuel. b. 1731, died 1736; Ruth, b. Oxford, Oct. 23, 1733, married (intentions dated Jul. 10) 1762, John Hart, of Leicester; Jonathan, b. Oxford, Dec. 23, 1735, soldier in the French war; died at Fort Edward unmarried; Samuel, b. Jul 31, 1738; Abigail, b. Oxford, Dec 5, 1740, married Jan. 2, 1759, Joshua Merriam of Oxford North Gore; Levi, b. Oxford, Apr. 27, 1745, married (intentions dated Jun. 28) 1766 Sarah Stone (Smith?) of Charlton. The Eddy genealogy gives also John, died in French and Indian war.
(VI) Samuel Eddy, son of Samuel Eddy (V), was born in Oxford, Jul. 31, 1738. He married Mar. 13, 1760, Susannah Merriam, of Oxford, North Gore. He died Jul. 4, 1798. His wife died Jan. 17, 1803, aged sixty-six years. The children of Samuel and Susanah (Merriam) Eddy were: Isabella, born Mar. 27, 1761; Samuel, b. Jul 11, 1764; John, b. May 31, 1768; Rufus, b. Apr. 6, 1772; Susanna; Ruth. All of the foregoing are mentioned in their father's will dated Jun. 5, 1793, excepting Isabella.
(VII) Samuel Eddy, son of Samuel Eddy (VI), was born in Oxford, Jul. 11, 1764. He married Sarah Hart and settled in Oxford. He died May 11, 1813; she died Oct. 17, 1838 aged seventy years. The children of Samuel and Sarah (Hart) Eddy were: James; Samuel, born Jul. 10, 1796, settled on the homestead; Lewis, b. Feb. 16 1801; Leonard; Lydia, married Daniel P., son of Reuben Eddy; Sarah, married (first) Thomas Baird; married (second) Swan Knowlton; Susan; Mary, married W. T. Warren, resided at Holden, MA.
(VIII) Lewis Eddy, son of Samuel Eddy (VIII) was born
in Oxford, MA, Feb. 16, 1801. He married Almira Smith, daughter of Samuel
Smith, of Oxford, MA. He died Worcester, MA, Jun. 14, 1875. His wife died
Jun. 5, 1867 also in Worcester. The children of Lewis and Almira (Smith)
Eddy were: 1. Eliza N., b. Apr. 16, 1824, married Dec. 22, 1847, Levi Eddy,
settled in Worcester; he died Dec. 5, 1870; she died 1888. 2. Henry William,
b. Oct. 17, 1826, married Jan. 3, 1850, Julia Foster of Fitchburg; married
(second) Nancy M. Merrill. 3. Amelia L., b. Apr.1, 1829, married Apr. 10,
1849, William H. Richards; married (second), Jun. 24, 1869, David B. Galloupe,
of Salem; no children. 4. Emily, b. Nov. 24, 1831, married, Dec. 11, 1856,
Charles A. Bowker; she died Jan. 15, 1852. (obviously something is wrong
here) 5. Lewis M. , b. Jun. 9, 1834, married, Apr. 1871, V. Adelaide Libby,
of Rockland, ME; resided Boston. 6. Mary F., b. Feb. 10, 1836, married Dec.
29, 1859, John N. Peters, of Westboro; resided Worcester. 7. Samuel S.,
b. Apr. 27, 1838, married Jan. 1, 1857, Susan W. Carry; married (second),
Oct. 14, 1880, Franc O. Webster, of Rochester, NY. 8. Lucian a., b. Mar.
5, 1842, married Jun. 1863, Caroline A. Haskell, of No. Brookfield, MA;
resided in Syracuse, NY. 9. Albert M., b. Mar. 22, 1843, married, Dec. 1869,
Caroline M. Hervey, resided St. Louis, MO. 10. Alfred Theodore, b. Feb.
28, 1845, married Elizabeth S. Cummings, of Nashua, NH; she died Apr. 1,
1878. 11. Herbert, b. 1849, died 1850.
