He died on 24 May 1874 in Boylston, Worcester, MA. (6)(25) He died of Rheumatic Fever. He was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston, Worcester, MA.(6) He settled on the family homestead. He was a farmer and miller. He assisted his father with the grist mill, saw mill and farm and became the owner. The saw mill was taken down about 18?? and the lumber used by Uriah Bartlet in building his house on the Jones Allen farm on Grafton St. in the south part of Shrewsbury. The grist mill was sold by Eli's sons, Lyndon and Seth F. in 1874 to David O. Washman for $602.50. A few years later it belonged to Charles E. Walton who built a house near it and added a saw mill at the west end. The saw mill and the old Banister grist mill were both burned when they belonged to Alber Bedard. The farm was afterwards owned by Eli's son Seth F. and is now [1946] occupied by Seth's son Robert E. Banister. He was married to Mary Ann SMITH (daughter of
Cyrus SMITH and Prudence WILDER) on 15 Oct 1849 in Princeton,
Worcester, MA.(14)

(22) Mrs. Mary Ann Banister, widow of Eli B. Banister, died at 5 o'clock
this morning at the home of her son, Seth F. Banister, in the south part of Boylston,
of the grip, aged 88 years , 2months, and 16 days. Mrs. Bannister was born in
Princeton the daughter of Cyrus and Prudence [Wilder Smith. When 20 years old,
she came to Boylston, and worked for awhile in the family of Levi Flagg. At
the age of 22 she was marreid to Eli Banister, and then came to live on the farm,
which has ever since been her home. Her husband died many years ago. She was
a member of the Boylston Congregational church and a constant attaendant until
weakened by age and ill health. She has been quite feeble for several years.
She is survived by tow sons: Lyndon W. Banister of Galion, Ohio and Seth F.
Banister of Boylston: and three grandsons, Frank B. Banister of Upton, and George
L and Rober B. Banister of Boylston. The funeral was at her late home. Tuesday
afternoon Rev. GeorgeS. Dodge officicating. The bearers were her three grandsons,
Frank, George and Robert Banister, and George A. Vickery. Among the beautiful
floral tributes from friends and relatives were carnations, roses, lillies, violets
and hyacinths. Among the out-of-town people present were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank
B. Banister of Upton; Mr and Mrs. Henry Harlow, Miss Ruth Harlow, Miss Jennie
Gamache and Peter Gamache, of Shrewsbury; Miss Ruth E. Partridge, Mr and Mrs.
Charles H Pinkham of Worcester; and henry E. Newell of Millbury. She was buried
in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston, Worcester, MA.
